Blanchard senior Kanon Kirchner is entering his first season as the starting quarterback as one of several new key players on the Lions’ offense.
Kirchner’s development will play a vital role in Blanchard’s quest to play in the Class 3A state championship game for a third consecutive season.
Q: How has the transition gone with you taking over as the quarterback and with the other new faces on offense?
A: It’s gone really well. We’ve got great coaches that do a good job coaching us up on everything, so that allows us to be in a pretty good with all that stuff.
Is the style of offense going to be the same or have you guys had to change things up?
It’s going to be the same. We’ve had to move some guys around to different positions, but other than that not much has changed. We’re pretty much running all the same plays that a lot of us were already used to.
Blanchard hasn’t had to play a lot of two-way players in recent years, is that the same this year?
We’re a little bit more shallow this year, so right now we’ve got some guys that are going to have to play both sides. We’ve got some others that we’re trying to bring along so we can give guys a rest.
Looking at the schedule, is there one team you’re most looking forward to playing?
Definitely Tuttle in the first game and also Newcastle in Week 3. Other than that, we are just looking forward to taking on everyone and doing what we need to do to win.
