Maybe Oklahoma City Blazers forward Ted Vandermeer just wanted to make sure he wasn’t forgotten by anybody.

With his older brother, Bill Vandermeer, earning player of the week honors Monday, Ted gave himself a solid start to earning the honor for this week.

Ted Vandermeer scored a goal and had an assist in the Blazers’ 4-1 victory against Amarillo on Wednesday night at the Ford Center.

Following a scoreless first period in which it had 13 shots on goal, Oklahoma City scored three goals in its first four shots of the second period.

"We had constant pressure and had an overall good effort tonight,” coach Doug Sauter said.

Vandermeer notched his fifth goal of the season to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead four minutes into the second.

Less than three minutes later, Vandermeer had a shot to get another goal, but in a play that epitomizes the team-first mentality of the Blazers (13-1-2), waited and set up Cam Doull for the goal.

Ted Vandermeer was just supposed to be a bonus. After the Blazers acquired Bill Vandermeer in the summer, they picked up Ted.

But Ted has been more than a bonus, he’s been a contributor. His two points Wednesday give him 13 for the season.

Oklahoma City center Chad Hinz scored his first home goal and his second overall this season. Hinz has scored in all six games he’s played after returning to the team from Austria earlier this month.
