So you say it's A-gra, not Ag-ra March 02, 2008 | Comment on this article Leave a comment By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com The running joke all weekend was “boy, those Agra fans are celebrating like they’ve never been here before.” Yeah, by Friday night, the joke had run its course, but still those Bearcat fans had an enthusiasm that was just, well, strange. Because even if you... Read More
Next stop: Pullman March 02, 2008 By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com I know a lot of fans in Class B will be glad to see Stringtown’s James Watson head out to Pac-10 country at Washington State. Some because he was a thorn in the side of opposing teams. While others probably felt Watson got away with just about everything as a Tiger.... Read More
No last-second bummer this time March 02, 2008 By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com Man, I hate to take away anything from the Howe girls, but the thing that stood out to me was how impressive Autumn Klugh was for Fort Cobb-Broxton. I gave them a slim to none shot of knocking off Preston. And trailing 30-16 in the third quarter against Howe, it was... Read More
Raider Nation March 02, 2008 By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com No, definitely not the Oakland Raiders. I’m talking about the Lomega Raiders. A group that returned all five starters from last year’s championship squad and was able to repeat. Sure it sounds great to have all five starters back. But I must say that is a ton of... Read More
The transfer that saved Norman February 29, 2008 By Ray Martin rmartin@oklahoman.com I’m sure when Norman girls high school basketball coach Matilda Mossman walked off the court tonight after Norman defeated Del City 60-50 to advance to the 6A state tournament, she thought something like “thank goodness for that transfer”. The transfer of the Ramon... Read More

Clarke closing in February 29, 2008 At halftime, Clarke has 23 points, needing just 11 more to break Ty Harman’s career scoring record. Clarke punctuated the half with a running 3-pointer over three Adair defenders.  Clarke is 9 of 15 from the floor so far, 4-4 from the free-throw line and 1-3 from behind the 3-point line.  Starting... Class B girls recap: What a night! February 29, 2008 By Zach West zwest@oklahoman.com I’ve been involved with small-school state basketball tournaments for nearly 10 years running now, and let me tell you, there aren’t too many days like the day Class B girls had on Thursday at Midwest City High School. For starters, the day started and ended... Read More
Live from Skiatook, it’s the Rotnei Clarke show February 29, 2008 I arrived at the gym just after 4 p.m. (for an 8 p.m. boys start, gates opened a few minutes ago at 5:30) and there were already about 75 or so Adair and Verdigris fans waiting for the night session to start. The outsiders were Eufaula fans, who were inside cheering their boys before the Lady Ironheads play Adair... Read More
A quick look at small-school state February 29, 2008 So day 1 (and most of day two) is in the books at the small-school state basketball tournament. There weren’t any big surprises in Class A.  It’s also become apparent that the hardest class to pick the all-state team in is going to be Class A. There a lot of good, solid players in the class but there’s... Read More
ESPN? Please. February 28, 2008 By Ray Martin rmartin@oklahoman.com When Blake Jackson, our multimedia reporter, suggested I play a game of HORSE in a video with Verdigris guard Rotnei Clarke, I knew it was a good idea. But I never envisioned ESPN, the king of sports media, copying Blake’s work. Analyst Bill Walton played a game of HORSE... Read More
Oklahoma basketball's hidden treasure? February 25, 2008 By Ray Martin rmartin@oklahoman.com Not many people know about Rex Farmer. But there are a few premier high schools in Oklahoma that know him plenty well. Farmer is a 6-foot-6 freshman forward that leads the Oklahoma City Storm, one of Oklahoma City’s two home-school teams. And by lead them, I mean almost... Read More
State Wrestling: A wild night February 24, 2008 By Matt Patterson mpatterson@oklahoman.com  The 87th Annual Oklahoma High School Wrestling Championships is in the books and it didn’t dissapoint. There were upsets, vengeance and suprises galore.  Here’s a few things that caught my eye:  - Midwest City’s improable championship in Class... Read More
"Wait, what's a Ridgerunner?" February 24, 2008 By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com While my wrestling knowledge was more limited than I would have liked, I had an inkling about Grove’s greatness. No, I’m not even going to come close to saying I thought Grove was going to win, but the Ridgerunners were very impressive at the 4A state duals. I saw... Read More
"Not going away without a fight" February 24, 2008 By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com That clever little quote is my way of saying “let’s talk about 2A wrestling.” I admit to being bogged down by swimming that I wasn’t up to snuff going into this weekend’s tournament. Well, bogged down is a horrible term to use because I did enjoy the... Read More
Clarke made me a HORSE on his way to the record February 20, 2008 By Ray Martin – I went home last weekend. Not to see the family or hang out with old friends, but to play a friendly game of HORSE with my former teammate, and Arkansas signee, Rotnei Clarke. I let Rotnei win, of course, and I interviewed him in the process and asked him about college, the playoffs and closing in... Read More
The Woodward-Whitbeck reign is over February 17, 2008 By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com Other observations from the pool this weekend: The monopoly is over. No, not the Sam one, but the Woodward-Whitbeck domination. Yeah, Lizzy Whitbeck will still be there but with Sam and Katie moving on, who’s going to take that mantle as the top swimmers with Lizzy?... Read More
"She's the one ahead of everybody" February 16, 2008 By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com I really wasn’t trying to be a jerk, but “she’s the one ahead of everybody” was my response to a fan’s question of who is Samantha Woodward at the state swimming championships? I thought the answer sufficed. It was short, precise and accurate. This weekend... Read More
Confusion leaves Selby out of pool February 13, 2008 By Robert Przybylo BPrzybylo@Oklahoman.com Despite qualifying for the state swimming championships in three events at last Thursday’s last chance meet, Harding Prep’s Mitchell Selby will not be allowed to participate this weekend. Paperwork needed to be filed to the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities... Read More
