Thunder: Super fan intends to let Patrick Beverley have it
May 01, 2013
Houston guard Patrick Beverley is sure to receive quite the welcome from Thunder fans on Wednesday night. To try to get a gauge on just how, um, enthusiastic that reception might be I reached out to Garrett Haviland. You know him better as the rotund guy in the Mexican wrestler’s mask with the megaphone.... Read More

Thunder: Luck ran out with Westbrook injury
April 26, 2013
Championship contenders have to be good. But they have to be lucky, too. The Thunder’s luck came to a screeching halt on Friday when we learned that Russell Westbrook needs surgery on his right knee. He has a lateral meniscus tear, an injury suffered in the second quarter of Game 2 against the Rockets. The ... Read More
Thunder: KD’s new kicks
April 09, 2013
Kevin Durant’s got a new pair of shoes.
Later this week, the Thunder superstar will debut a new version of his signature Nike Zoom KDV. The shoe is called the Nike Zoom KDV N7, and it is turquoise with pops of yellow, nods to symbolic colors in the Native American community.

Want to help a fellow Oklahoman? Here’s how
March 07, 2013
In Tuesday’s Oklahoman, I wrote about the wild story of Yukon grandfather Roger Wenzel.
You can read it by clicking here.
The gist is that Wenzel, a 64-year-old who competes in senior-adult track and field events, has been found guilty of doping by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency because of the testosterone that... Read More
Thunder: Scott Brooks says Derek Fisher ‘definitely … will play’
February 26, 2013
Apparently, Derek Fisher wasn’t brought in to replace Eric Maynor.
On Tuesday, Thunder coach Scott Brooks met with the media for the first time since the team signed Fisher. It was somewhat assumed that Fisher was being brought in to be the third-team point guard, and if he filled that role as Maynor did before... Read More

Sports still helping the healing in Newtown
January 31, 2013
Got an unexpected email yesterday from Tim Tallcouch. He is the boys basketball coach at Newtown High School in Newtown, Conn., and I connected with him about six weeks ago when I was working on a column about the sports world’s tributes to the school shooting victims in his town.

I wrote for the Sunday Oklahoman about Baltimore Ravens tight end Billy Bajema, who went to Westmoore High and Oklahoma State. You can read that column by clicking here.

Thunder: Playing a dead team walking on Sunday?
January 26, 2013
My gut says there’s no way the Lakers beat the Thunder on Sunday.
Ditto for what it says about Los Angeles making the playoffs.
The Lakers are a dead team walking.
Or are they?
Let’s take a dive into the numbers and the schedule and see what they have to say about the Lakers’ playoff chances. I mean,... Read More

Bedlam: Cowboys and Sooners need a moment
January 11, 2013
Bedlam basketball has returned to relevancy.
Finally.
These past few years have been boredom when it comes to Bedlam. No sizzle. No hype. Sure, any time Oklahoma and Oklahoma State meet for an athletic competition, there’s a little added juice. But for most fans, there hasn’t been much excitement about the... Read More
Thunder: Russell Westbrook’s efficient excellence
January 10, 2013
Russell Westbrook doesn’t do anything quietly.
Yet, his recent stretch of excellent play has flown largely under the radar. For example, the Thunder point guard scored 23 points on 7-for-14 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds, dished seven assists and committed just one turnover Wednesday night against Minnesota,... Read More
