–Clearly Oklahoma State is still building their program and they haven’t reached the level of OU or Texas. Until they beat those teams, it’s hard to say otherwise.
–I still think they are on the right track. They just need to continue to focus on recruiting the... Read More

Donald Booker’s love for the game of football is clear. The senior linebacker is Oklahoma State’s leading tackler with 80 tackles this season. He stepped into the lineup when Orie Lemon was lost to a torn ACL before the season began.
Yet, when OSU’s kickoff team was... Read More

–I was very upfront about my belief that Zac Robinson shouldn’t play against Colorado. I felt OSU should be able to be Colorado with its running game and defense. Guess I was wrong…
–…or maybe I was right. If OSU had lost that game, it would have, again, been... Read More

In this week’s edition of Behind Enemy Lines, I did a question-and-answer session with Tom Kensler, the Colorado beat writer for the Denver Post.
Brandon Chatmon: It appears Hawkins in on the hot seat. How hot is it?
Tom Kensler: Scalding. At this point, the feeling is that Colorado could win big over... Read More

Out of nowhere it seems, an item in the Rumors section of ESPN’s college basketball page carried the title:
Matt Pilgrim: Chemistry Killer?
The item questioned Pilgrim’s two other stops (Hampton and Kentucky) in his college career and alluded to suggestions that he... Read More

— A great win… but what will be remembered is this…
— Get down, Zac… Get down!
— Anymore questions about Bill Young’s defense? They shut down Texas Tech’s offense. Great gameplan, great execution.
— After being the... Read More

Oklahoma State running back Keith Toston galloped for a 69-yard run late in the Iowa State game but was stopped at the two yard line.
I couldn’t help but ask Zac Robinson about it, just to see if he gave Toston a hard time about getting caught so close to the endzone:... Read More

Texas Tech has quarterback issues.
Like, who will start?
And who’s available?
And who’s best?
While much of the talk this week will center around OSU’s ability to slow the Red Raiders — something the Cowboys have long struggled to accomplish, as our... Read More

John Helsley
John Helsley grew up in Del City, reading all the newspapers and sports magazines he could get his hands on. And Saturday afternoons, when the Major League Game of the Week was on, he'd keep a scorecard for the game. So the sports appeal was was deep-rooted at an early age.
Mrs. Jackson, an English/Journalism teacher at Del City High, plucked him for the school paper, The Eagle Beacon, and John was hooked. While he detoured through a brief accounting career, John returned to college (Central Oklahoma) for a second degree and a second career that has seen him cover everything from the preps to the pros at The Oklahoman.
John lives in Edmond with his wife Roberta and two daughters, Sarah and Jillian, who are keeping the family tradition of cheering for the baseball team with the birds on the bat.
