Todd Monken talked jobs the other day, specifically head coaching jobs.
He wants to be a head coach. Few assistants in the profession don’t.
Monken said he likes his current gig and he’s paid handsomely – $600,000 annually – to perform it. But he also likes the idea of leading a program. And he’s... Read More

OSU running back Joseph Randle has been producing since arriving as a freshman, already ranking ninth on the school’s all-time rushing list, as a junior.

We all know that the numbers don’t tell the whole story (or as Todd Monken would say, “stats are, really, for losers”). But each week, we’ll update where Oklahoma State ranks in the NCAA’s major statistical categories.
With just one week left in the regular season, it’s difficult for a single game to... Read More

We’ve looked extensively at Oklahoma State’s bowl possibilities for the last week or so, including in Monday’s “Main Event.”

Each week, we’ll look back at what uniform combination Oklahoma State wore and make a prediction for the next game. Nothing scientific about it. All in good fun.
I correctly predicted Oklahoma State’s all-white “Storm Trooper” look for Bedlam.
But here’s an interesting stat — the Cowboys are 0-3... Read More

Still sensing an emotional hangover from the Bedlam loss, Cowboys coach Mike Gundy asked his team to do something different Sunday night.
Laugh a little.
OSU skipped its regular Sunday night practice, instead catching some standup comedy in the team’s meeting room, via Netflix.

Oklahoma State and OU are tied 24-24 at halftime in Norman. Here’s some thoughts, notes and stats:

Bedlam arrives in Norman today, with Oklahoma State matching up with Oklahoma in a battle of two ranked teams.
Three questions
Is Clint Chelf ready for this?
There’s really no reason to believe he’s not, with the way he performed so well off the bench in Manhattan three weeks ago. He was calm and effective... Read More

When Clint Chelf makes his third start Saturday, it’ll complete an unlikely journey from No. 3 quarterback to ultimate scenario: starting the Bedlam game.

John Helsley
John Helsley grew up in Del City, reading all the newspapers and sports magazines he could get his hands on. And Saturday afternoons, when the Major League Game of the Week was on, he'd keep a scorecard for the game. So the sports appeal was was deep-rooted at an early age.
Mrs. Jackson, an English/Journalism teacher at Del City High, plucked him for the school paper, The Eagle Beacon, and John was hooked. While he detoured through a brief accounting career, John returned to college (Central Oklahoma) for a second degree and a second career that has seen him cover everything from the preps to the pros at The Oklahoman.
John lives in Edmond with his wife Roberta and two daughters, Sarah and Jillian, who are keeping the family tradition of cheering for the baseball team with the birds on the bat.
