The Tailgate Blog: My couch October 22, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — There’s nothing a sportswriter longs for more than a day to sit on his or her couch and watch football. The Tailgate Blog: The Texas State Fair October 08, 2011   CORNY DOG LAND, Texas — I’d never heard it called a corny dog until this week. No, I have not consumed one yet. It’s 9:08 a.m. as I’m starting this, far too early in the morn’ for anything fried or battered. I am about to go wade through the grounds, see what’s being fried out there. The word... Read More
Texas is back (next year) October 04, 2011 Texas’ surprising 5-7 meltdown last year was a shocker. All programs go through down cycles. But the Longhorns? Seven losses? Five home losses? That’s more home losses than Mack Brown experienced the previous 10 seasons combined. For the first time in more than a decade expectations were low in Austin.... Read More
The Morning-After Blog: Bouncing Ball State October 02, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — I stayed up late last night finally watching the ESPN Steve Bartman doc “Catching Hell.” Excellent stuff, if you haven’t seen it. Why not have the Tailgate Blog from Campus Corner today, in advance of tonight’s 6 p.m. kick against Ball State? Just cruised through there. Asp is blocked off. Folks are beginning to gather. I’ll walk over there in about an hour... Read More
Top Ten List: Ball State Facts October 01, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — I was in a weird mood the other day when I received a tweet from someone suggesting I/we do a David Letterman-style Top Ten list, since Letterman’s alma mater Ball State was coming to town.   So … here goes … 10. The NCAA ruled having Ball in the school’s name does not... Read More
Sooners drop to No. 2 in AP; a breakdown of votes September 25, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — There’s a new AP No. 1, and it’s LSU. The Tigers just might be deserving after convincing victories in September against Oregon (neutral field) and at West Virginia. Oklahoma played well enough to win last week at Florida State, but even that victory was sullied Saturday by the fact... Read More
The Tailgate Blog: The Missouri perspective September 24, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — Dave Matter of the Columbia Daily Tribune was kind enough to field some questions about Missouri. Two home games for OU, no Stills for either September 24, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — Kenny Stills sure looked like someone who was going to play tonight, when he leaped up and down with his OU teammates in the Owen Field tunnel. Updating OU’s Big 12 to-do list September 21, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — About 24 hours ago, we started to get a sense the Big 12, with a push from OU, just might be saved. OU’s push became a Pac-12 shove by the end of the day. The Pac-12′s decision not to expand, for all the reasons it had, left the Big 12 very little choice but to come together and... Read More
The OU Review: Breaking down FSU video September 19, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — Back in the Corner, few hours of sleep under my belt.
