Stoops gets riled discussing attitudes, transfers December 29, 2011 PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — After spending an hour with him Wednesday, we wondered what was left for Bob Stoops to discuss. Toward the end of a half-hour news conference Thursday, Stoops was asked (hat tip to Carey Murdock of Rivals for asking) if he was “putting his foot down” or cleaning house with the recent... Thoughts from Insight Bowl media day December 28, 2011 PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — An eventful morning of interviews here at the scenic Camelback Inn. It started with Andrew Luck and Stanford, continued with Oklahoma State and ended with the media day for the Insight Bowl teams, Iowa and OU. It’s interesting, as our Berry Tramel pointed out, that we get an... Read More
Sooners have celeb visitor at last practice of year December 28, 2011 PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — Last full practice of the year for Oklahoma wrapped up a few minutes ago. All-Pro receiver Larry Fitzgerald stopped by to hang out with the guys for a bit, down at Corona del Sol High School. How about that? The Cardinals host Seattle this weekend in Glendale, a day before the Fiesta... Read More

Trey Millard: The most interesting man … in the backfield December 15, 2011 CAMPUS CORNER — Trey Millard set a lesser-known NCAA record this season (breaking his own record from a year ago, I believe). The sophomore He-Man set the mark for words-written-per-yard-gained. We talk a lot about Millard, in large part because Bob Stoops talks a lot about Millard. But, this season, the... Read More
Sooners getting some recognition December 15, 2011 It started with Oklahoma receiving four votes in this week’s USA Today poll, essentially ranked 39th. Now ESPN Bracketlogist Joe Lunardi has the Sooners as a No. 11 seed in the early, early, early, early NCAA Tournament projections. Did I say it was early? OU’s 7-1 start in Lon Kruger’s inaugural season... Read More
Bedlam Football Overhead December 04, 2011 During the celebration after yesterday’s Bedlam football game, Bryan Terry took a different angle from the rest of our team and photographed from the roof of Boone Pickens Stadium. He took some shots of the Spirit Walk from up high before the game as well. Here’s some of Bryan’s pictures from overhead.... Read More
Sooners appear headed to Insight vs. Iowa December 04, 2011 CAMPUS CORNER — We’ll know officially within the hour, but signs continue to point toward Oklahoma meeting Iowa in the Insight.com Bowl, played Dec. 30 in Tempe, Ariz. Haven’t heard a lot of positives on this from Sooners fans, but, well, I guess that’s part of the territory for a 9-3 season that ended... Read More
Tailgate Blog: Live from the T-Boone December 03, 2011   STILLWATER — A nicer day than expected. The rain cleared out earlier in the afternoon. Even had some sun on the drive up. I’m told colder weather, and some wind, is on the way. Game temps expected to be in the 30s and dropping, with the wind 20-30 mph. We’ll see what sort of an impact it has, but... Read More
State(s) of disunion(s): Anticipation of Bedlam December 02, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — If you missed it, Clemson’s football coach, Dabo Swinney, went off last night on South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier. You’ll see the context in the link. Swinney likely was using this as some sort of motivational ploy two days before Clemson, in a tailspin after a 7-0 start, plays in... Read More
What We’re Working On: Game day in Stillwater December 02, 2011 CAMPUS CORNER — Last installment of this in the prelude to Bedlam. It’s our game day coverage. My story focuses on turnovers, which, yes, can be something of a cliche topic in football. Of course they’re important, right? But what’s up with the sort of mystical power that they seem to have this season... Read More
What We’re Working On: Storm Warning In Stillwater December 01, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — I’m happy to report this has very little to do with weather. Repeat, we did not create an entire section based on weather. Weather stories are necessary, and also evil. Because weather changes. And, even if it winds up playing a role in the game, we’ll talk about it too much during... Read More
What We’re Working On: Belldozing & Broyles. November 29, 2011 CAMPUS CORNER — Update on Bedlam week and our plans covering it. Our Mike Baldwin is writing for tomorrow about the Belldozer. Heard of it? We’ve talked a lot about this Blake Bell offensive package. It’s evolved over time, with mixed results. A couple of weeks ago, Bob Stoops said the options were... Read More
What we’re working on: Under Pressure. November 28, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — This week, in advance of Bedlam, a special feature here on the blog. We’ll give you a look inside what we’re writing — the angles, the questions we’re seeking answers to, etc., etc. You might not care. You might really dig it. We’ll give it a spin, see what happens. A lot of... Read More
Tailgate blog: Cyclones (literal, symbolic) invade Owen Field November 26, 2011 CAMPUS CORNER — Here’s the skinny on the tailgate scene today: There isn’t one. It’s cold. It’s windy. And it’s early. That’s a killer for pregame scene. Moving the start from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. chapped some fans, from what I gather … but it would have been cold tonight, too. It’s November.... Read More
Tailgate blog: Live from blustery Waco November 19, 2011   BEVERLY HILLS, Texas — We’re unsure if we’re in Waco or Beverly Hills. Let’s go with the latter. Sounds exotic. I’ve only been through here, never stopped. I’m looking directly at all the steeples and spires on the Baylor campus, but we’re a couple of miles south. There are rumors of an... Read More
UPDATE: Jones not part of prank; tires really stolen (oops) November 16, 2011 CAMPUS CORNER — I apologize to Sooners QB Landry Jones, who I thought Tuesday was the victim of a prank by his teammates. Turns out … his tires really were stolen. I just ran into one of his teammates while I was eating lunch, and he told me the strangest part of this is that everyone thinks it’s a joke.... Read More
Sooners QB victim of tomfoolery? November 15, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — Evidently being Oklahoma’s all-time leading passer doesn’t preclude you from being punk’d. In fact, it might actually encourage it, given this current group of Sooners. Exhibit A … @LandryJones12 Landry JonesCan anyone find my tires?? Poor Landry Jones. He might be thumbing a... Read More
Sooners to visit Mickey, Minnie and O’Leary? November 08, 2011   CAMPUS CORNER — And now for something different, other than news about earthquakes and severe weather. A website dedicated to covering University of Central Florida sports is reporting UCF and Oklahoma are nearing a home-and-home football deal. OU would go to east Orlando in 2012, and UCF would come to... Read More
