Thunder Hitting the Road October 31, 2008 | Comment on this article Leave a comment A few questions about the Thunder heading into tomorrow’s game against Houston… * How will the Thunder handle the road tomorrow and throughout the season? * How will Jeff Green and Kevin Durant bounce back? * Can Russell Westbrook build on Wednesday’s performance and begin his career by... Analyzing Durant October 30, 2008 He’s not a shooting guard. He can’t dribble. He wasn’t even trying. I’ve heard all the above about Kevin Durant and much more about the second-year guard’s Oklahoma City debut. There’s no question Durant had a bad night. He missed all four of his shots in the first half and made 5 of 10 in the... Read More

On Thunder-Bucks October 28, 2008 What a great trade for the Bucks is what I thought when New Jersey severed ties with Richard Jefferson in favor of the man they call Yi. From then on I have proclaimed to any and all how much better the Bucks are. But somewhere, I lost confidence in the Bucks. Perhaps when they traded Mo essentially for... Read More
Thunder Mascot Will Be….. October 28, 2008 OK, so I don’t know. But today I had a conversation with John Leach, the team’s director of events and entertainment, and he reiterated that the mascot is scheduled to be unveiled before the end of the season. Here’s what he had to say….. “We are going to have a mascot. Obviously it’s not something... Read More
2005-06 Hornets vs. 2008-09 Thunder October 26, 2008 I asked Desmond Mason which team was better, the 2005-06 Hornets or the 2008-09 Thunder. Mason said the Thunder. You can read all about it in Monday’s paper. But I tend to agree with him. Here’s an early look at my breakdown of both rosters, which will also be in Monday’s paper. What do you think?... Read More
Story on Joe Smith October 25, 2008 By Darnell Mayberry Staff Writer ONTARIO, Calif.  – Before Joe Smith walked to the free throw line midway through the second quarter, the Thunder power forward walked over to coach P.J. Carlesimo for a helping hand. Smith removed his newly acquired clear facemask. Carlesimo raised a towel to the mask and... Read More

Suns 102, Thunder 93 October 24, 2008 PHOENIX — A few observations from Thunder-Suns. * Kevin Durant is long and athletic enough to get his shot over pretty much any smaller defender no matter how good he is. Raja Bell was no match for Durant tonight. Bell’s best bet was trying to prevent KD from getting the ball and playing up when he did.... Read More

Too Many Preseason Games? October 24, 2008 ONTARIO, Calif. — Kobe Bryant.  Steve Nash. Amare Stoudemire. Deron Williams. Larry Hughes. All were victims of preseason injuries, some more severe than others. But the question becomes, do NBA teams play too many preseason games? The Thunder is just hours away from tip-off in its preseason... Read More

Short by about 12,000 October 20, 2008 I was disappointed. I blame it on P.J. Carlesimo. It was the Thunder coach who threw out the number — “15,000.” I remember thinking when he said it Saturday that there was no chance Monday’s open practice would draw that many fans. But then I had 24 hours to think it over and at some point... Read More
Open Practice Plan October 19, 2008 The Thunder took today off for some much needed rest and relaxation to a banged up bunch. The boys will get back at it Monday with an open practice at the Ford Center. I’ll have a full note on the details of the practice in Monday’s paper but here’s the plan….. The session will start at 6 p.m.... Read More

Thunder Pick Up Durant, Green Options October 16, 2008 The Thunder has exercised the third-year options on the contracts of Kevin Durant and Jeff Green, keeping them with the franchise through the 2009-10 season. Thunder 110, Rockets 104 October 14, 2008 TULSA — Kevin Durant showed tonight why the NBA world says he’ll someday be great. He simply took over down the stretch, scoring 18 of the team’s final 25 points and had 20 of his 26 in the fourth quarter. But he was the complete package tonight, playing even more impressively on the defensive end and... Read More

John Lucas' Chances October 13, 2008 I’m often asked whether John Lucas has a chance to make the team. My answer usually is it’ll be tough. In his first preseason action with the Thunder on Saturday against Golden State, Lucas scored six points with a... Read More
