  • Thunder 107, Suns 97

Nuggets from my notebook from Saturday’s 107-97 win over Phoenix Serge Ibaka looks to be picking it up. His last two games have been filled with energy and effort. He had eight points on 4-of-4 shooting tonight and swatted two shots. He didn’t get major minutes because of the Suns’ lack...

  • Thunder 104, Mavs 102

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Fri, Dec 30, 2011

Nuggets from my notebook from Thursday’s win over Dallas. Absolutely amazing display by Thunder fans with 3:17 left to play. When a struggling Russell Westbrook stepped to the free throw line looking to complete a three-point play, the entire arena erupted in a chant of “Russ-ell, Russ-ell,...

  • Kevin Durant Talks About Russell Westbrook

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Thu, Dec 29, 2011

Kevin Durant sat down for an interview with NBA TV less than three minutes after I asked him about Wednesday night’s incident with Russell Westbrook. Durant diffused the situation in his response to me, and in the below video he again reiterates his appreciation for Westbrook as a teammate.

  • Thunder 98, Grizzlies 95

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Thu, Dec 29, 2011

Nuggets from my notebook from Wednesday’s win at Memphis. I imagine there will be plenty of talk about Russell Westbrook’s performance tonight. And rightfully so. He went 0-for-13 with only four points and six assists against four turnovers in 31 minutes. It was a performance that rivaled...

  • Thunder 104, Wolves 100

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Tue, Dec 27, 2011

Nuggets from my notebook from Monday’s 104-100 win at Minnesota. Kendrick Perkins stole the show. That was hard to do tonight for anyone on the Thunder not named Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook or James Harden. But Perk again made his presence felt in ways that showed up in the stat sheet and...

  • Where to next for Nate Robinson?

John Rohde | Published: Tue, Dec 27, 2011

Guard Nate Robinson cleared waivers Tuesday, which means anyone can claim the 5-foot-9, 27-year-old, three-time NBA slam dunk champion. It was no surprise OKC and Robinson parted ways at the outset of training camp earlier this month. Robinson’s me-first attitude didn’t...

  • Ricky Rubio To Debut Against Thunder

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Mon, Dec 26, 2011

After two topsy-turvy years, Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio will finally make his NBA debut tonight at 7 against the Thunder. There was a time when Rubio was an international sensation, a can’t-miss prospect. But the NBA lockout has overshadowed Rubio’s arrival. Recent Blockbuster trades...

  • David Stern Drops Bombshell On OKC

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Mon, Dec 26, 2011

I had an interesting five-minute chat with NBA commissioner David Stern last night. With just minutes to spare before tip-off between the Thunder and Magic following his 25-minute pre-game press conference with reporters, Stern stuck around after I snagged him off to the side for a couple of...

  • Thunder 97, Magic 89

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Mon, Dec 26, 2011

Nuggets from my notebook from Sunday’s 97-89 win over Orlando. This one had ups and downs throughout. It felt like the Thunder was absolutely dominant at times and at others OKC looked like downright sloppy. The Thunder watched Orlando make eight of its first nine, then miss 14 of its next 15....

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Tue, Dec 20, 2011

Nuggets from my notebook from Tuesday’s 87-83 win over Dallas. By far the most interesting thing on the night took place 90 minutes before the game even started. It came in Thunder coach Scott Brooks‘ pre-game session with the media. In responding to a question I asked about sixth men,...

  • Thunder should reap rewards of this summer

John Rohde | Published: Tue, Dec 20, 2011

Getting a group of NBA players to gather on one spot during the offseason frequently is a futile quest. The Oklahoma City Thunder did it three times in the lockout summer of 2011, an achievement that has veteran center Nazr Mohammed still shaking his head. The Thunder held voluntary camps at...

  • Reggie Jackson Impresses In Debut

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Tue, Dec 20, 2011

Rookie guard Reggie Jackson played only six minutes in his debut Sunday at Dallas. The 24th overall pick out of Boston College scored three points with two assists and one rebound. He went 1-for-3 from the field, 1-for-2 from the foul line and had two fouls. But it was enough to impress...

  • Kevin Durant Goes All Dirk Nowitzki

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Mon, Dec 19, 2011

If you missed last night’s Thunder-Mavs game, you missed one of the latest moves Kevin Durant has added to his repertoire. Let’s just say it’s ri-dirk-ulous. Durant, at times, has been seen drilling on this move after practice throughout training camp and it just so happened that he...

  • Thunder Trades Mullens To Charlotte

Darnell Mayberry | Published: Mon, Dec 19, 2011

The Thunder has traded center Byron Mullens to Charlotte for a 2013 second-round draft pick. Mullens, the 24th pick in the 2009 draft by Dallas who was immediately acquired by the Thunder, averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in 5.3 minutes in only 26 games over two seasons. The 7-footer out...

Nuggets from my notebook from Sunday’s 106-92 win over the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd sat this one out. Let’s get that out of the way now, because nearly everything that comes next must be digested with that detail in mind. The Thunder’s defense was great at times and...

Former Thunder forward Jeff Green will miss the 2011-12 season after an examination detected an aortic aneurysm. Thunder coach Scott Brooks spoke briefly about Green following the team’s practice Saturday morning. I heard the news before practice. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jeff...

  • Observations From Friday’s Blue-White Scrimmage

Here’s five things that stood out from tonight’s Blue-White scrimmage. 1) Kendrick Perkins is back. Everyone hasn’t just been blowing smoke this preseason in speaking so highly of Perk. He looked great. No more lumbering up the court. No more lackluster moves in the post. Perk has...
