MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tourism officials in Blount County are expanding efforts to lure more travelers in 2013.

The Blount Partnership says its new director of tourism, Tami Vater, and the Smoky Mountain Tourism Development Authority plan to conduct media tours and to continue to promote the area to increase travel and overnight stays in the community.

The Smoky Mountain Tourism Development Authority also plans to launch a new mobile app in May to celebrate National Tourism Month.

The authority will also continue its spring and fall festivals, as well as host other demonstrations and activities at the visitors center in Townsend

The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development says Blount County ranked eighth among Tennessee's 95 counties in tourism activity with $305 million generated in 2011.
