‘Disney Secret of the Wings: Flitterrific Fairies Double Pack'

Pretty and lightweight as a pixie, “Secret of the Wings” continues the direct-to-DVD adventures of Tinker Bell, exploring the magic of sisterhood while venturing into winter.

The fourth release in the popular “Disney Fairies” film franchise — each computer-animated movie is built around one of the four seasons — lets the iconic imp continue to fly free of Peter Pan and her origins in J.M. Barrie's classic play.

In the fairy land of Pixie Hollow, Tink (voice of Mae Whitman) and her fellow tinkers are busily weaving snowflake baskets for their counterparts in the Winter Woods. Majestic snowy owls fetch the baskets since fairies on both sides are strictly prohibited from venturing across the border, by order of Pixie Hollow's Queen Clarion (Anjelica Huston) and the Winter Woods' Lord Milori (Timothy Dalton).

Of course, the rule doesn't stop the ever-inquisitive Tink from wondering about this forbidden land, and one day while watching a herd of rabbits cross over to begin their yearly hibernation, she slips over to the other side.

In the Winter Woods, Tinker Bell is astonished when her wings begin to sparkle, and she soon discovers that a frost fairy named Periwinkle (Lucy Hale) has begun experiencing the same phenomenon. The mysterious shimmer turns out to be a sign that they are two fairies born from the same baby's laugh, making them long-lost sisters. Naturally, Tink and her twin are determined to spend time together, regardless of the rule that would confine them to their separate realms. But the rule exists for a reason: Warm-weather fairies can't stand the cold, winter pixies can't take the heat, and temperature changes are particularly hard on their fragile wings.
