COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned defenseman Ilari Melart to their American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield, Mass.

Melart was loaned to HC Ugra of the Kontinental Hockey League on Dec. 17.

In 24 games played with Springfield earlier this season, Melart scored one goal and had two assists in addition to 28 penalty minutes. He recorded a goal and four assists in 15 games with Ugra, recently eliminated from Nadezhda Cup contention after failing to qualify for the Gagarin Cup playoffs.

A native of Helsinki, Finland, Melart was signed by Columbus as a free agent on May 24, 2013, after he played in the Finnish Elite League from 2008-13.
