"Boardwalk Empire" picked up for fifth season

HBO announced in a news release today it has renewed “Boardwalk Empire” for a fifth season.

The drama, from Terence Winter, Emmy-winning writer of “The Sopranos” and Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, has a cast that includes Oklahoma native Paul Sparks, Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Jack Huston and Shea Whigham.

“Boardwalk Empire,” set in the 1920s during Prohibition and centering on the life and times of Atlantic City gangster Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (Buscemi), began its fourth season Sept. 8 and airs at 8 p.m. Sundays on HBO.
