Oklahoma City native Bob Hoffman, who led Mercer men's basketball to an upset of Duke in the NCAA Tournament in March, has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the school through the 2020-21 season.
The contract replaces a one-year deal Hoffman signed in December that was to keep him in Macon, Ga., through 2017-18.
Hoffman finished the 2013-14 season in the NCAA Round of 32 with a 27-9 overall record, tying the school's best single-season win total. His 78-71 stunner over Duke was arguably the biggest upset of the tournament.
Hoffman has had various coaching stints in Oklahoma, from Southern Nazarene women’s hoops in the late 1980s – where he won an NAIA national championship in 1989 – to as recent as 2006 with the University of Oklahoma, where he was an assistant under Kelvin Sampson. Hoffman also played at Oklahoma Baptist and coached his alma mater from 1990-1999, and was The Oklahoman’s Little All-City Coach of the Year in 1983 after guiding Piedmont to the 3A state semifinals.
