Several years ago, Norman's Cadillac dealership was targeted for elimination by bankrupt General Motors Co. The dealership survived and is now unveiling its new, luxurious building to the public.

Bob Moore Cadillac of Norman was one of 17 Oklahoma dealerships chosen to be eliminated from the GM brand in 2009, as the automaker went through bankruptcy and restructured its dealer network. The dealer protested and later won an appeal to continue operating.

General Manager Jeff Powell said GM emerged from the bankruptcy stronger and began to focus more on Cadillac, adding new models, which helped the dealership in the long run.

State economy solid

“The car business had a considerable slowdown. But in Oklahoma, our economy has been pretty solid. Cadillac never really missed a beat,” Powell said. “Our business has been very good since 2008.”

The new location at 6400 N Interstate Drive opened for business last week.

The dealership has a 5,000-square-foot showroom (large enough for seven vehicles), accented with marble, custom cabinetry and wood provided by Cadillac. The dealership is outfitted with LED televisions, a children's play area, conference room available for community use and an air-conditioned service drive.
