The Huskies are a nice story. Division I-A only since 2000. In Big East football only since 2004. No previous bowl game bigger than the 2007 Meineke Car Bowl, in which Wake Forest beat UConn, 24-10.

But Connecticut is a team no better than, say, Kansas State or Texas Tech. UConn is one win ahead of those 7-5 teams, against a weaker schedule.

Do you like K-State's or Tech's chances against the Sooners on a neutral field?

Now, if somehow the Orange Bowl had lost its mind and allowed fourth-ranked Stanford to drop to the Fiesta, this task would look a little different. Stoops could be facing the potential of a six-game BCS losing streak.

Of course, maybe Stoops deserves such a free pass to end his BCS drought. Look at what his team has done the past three weeks.

A 53-24 victory at new-life Baylor. A 47-41 win at Stillwater over a top-10 team. A 23-20 gut-check over Nebraska.

That's as good a homestretch as any team in America. Survive that trio, and a team has earned a restful vacation. Which UConn appears to be for Stoops and the Sooners.
