OU Update: Broyles Injury

Oct 5Discussion of Ryan Broyles injury and when he can be expected back...

Sophomore receiver Ryan Broyles fractured his shoulder blade on the Sooners’ second play from scrimmage against Miami, but should only miss two to four weeks, said coach Bob Stoops.

Stoops originally said Broyles would be out of the lineup four to six weeks, but called the injury a “light fracture” on Monday.

The process for Bradford’s return would remain the same, and the junior Heisman winner is set to return to practice later today.

“Until you see them progress you don’t know. Until you get out there and work it, you don’t know,” Stoops said. “Everybody keeps asking the same question and the answer is impossible to give.”

The Sooners suffered their second loss of the season against Miami on Saturday, but Stoops shot down the idea that Bradford could sit for the remainder of the season as a result.

“There’s a chance he might get hit by a bus walking over here today. You’re asking me what I don’t know,” Stoops said. “That’s not what I would anticipate, though.”

Juan, think about what you said. A D1 O lineman should be able to hold his block on ANY D-Lineman?????

Couldnt you also reverse that and say that a D1 D-lineman should be able to beat the block of any O lineman? I saw guys getting flat beat by D-lineman who are also big time D1 prospects. This happens when you are thinking about assignments and checks and you cant focus on just beating your man. Once they get those things down, they can play with instinct. Much like a RB is less effective when he is worried about fumbling or getting hurt. Everything is like going through the motions at this point.

Go back and look at the 2005 line everyone. We had 1 veteran and a rotation of role players and newbies. Exactly what we have now, and the line developed, but it wasnt before the UT game.

Anytime someone spells "lose" as "loose", they automatically "lose" any and all credibility with me; especially when done over and over.

I hope we play Ohio State in a bowl game. Some one has to end their bowl droughts.

Matt, when an an O-Lineman takes the field at a D-1 school he should know how to block and be able to make his block one on one with any D-lineman. A coach can help a player define his skills, but he can't teach them how to block. Coach Patton does a good job with what he has to work with..... Next season there will be more talent on the o line because of the red shirts that will win those positions.
UnSub, Yukon - Oct 5, 2009 at 11:29 pm
This young man is a Plaaaayer. They need him back badly. Maybe I am wrong, but the Caleb kid seems like a very good prospect to me. Matt, in Edmond, the O line isn't a bunch of Freshmen. It does take a while to gel. But they should be coming around by now. And...if Matt Clapp doesn't totally miss his block, Landry doesn't fumble leading to a Miami score. Why does a veteran like Matt have a major brain fart? I see a general lack of fundamentals. Old cliche, but true.

O-line, while not the best we have had, is not the problem. See receiver. No one we can count on at this point. Have to develop Kennedy and Calab. And add the freshmen. Did it four years ago. They weren't great then but the best we had. Don't be afraid to play Freshmen now, we have to.

Wow, lose 4 out of 5 linemen to graduation/draft, move 1 from right tackle to left tackle which basically makes 5 new starters. Then lose your heisman trophy winner (replaced by another new starter), lose the best tight end in the country, lose your main receiving threat, go on the road and lose by a point to a very solid miami team? You guys wanna fire everybody??? What a bunch of dumbasses!
James, Baytown - Oct 5, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Jolly, I usually disagree with you, but this time I am right there with you. What a sorry bunch of losers.

I am an OU fan, but I am not arrogant enough to think that every player that plays for OU is automatically a top-shelf talent. This aint the 80's boys and girls where talent can be stockpiled. Any team that loses enough stars would be in trouble. Imagine UT without McCoy and Shipley. Lose a guy to injury and maybe have a recruit or two that dont pan out (common tale) and you have a depth issue.

Right now there are only a few proven talents on the team. Brown hasnt had a good year, Broyles is now hurt, and then Murray, and these "bozos" all complain about running the ball and giving the ball to our only playmakers because it isnt "imaginative" enough.

O line is not a place you can just plug and play. They need to develop, and they will. What we have here friends is a rebuilding year. This fact was covered up by the four returning players. The big injuries came and this was compounded because the offensive line and WR corps is just not up to snuff yet.

Yeah...if you say it..it must be true. I think it's funny that a bunch of message board experts know what the problem is. I'm not an OU fan and I even think you're idiots. You wouldn't know bad coaching if it hit you in the face..bozo's.
Jolly, Edmond - Oct 5, 2009 at 7:50 pm
2-2 record+great recruits+too many penalties+losing both games by 1 point = poor coaching (period)
j3lly, Boon Dock - Oct 5, 2009 at 6:43 pm
Brian, FLW you're a fool..lmao "This is not the first time he has done this to OU" Do you know how stupid you sound? Done what? Won for a bunch of ingrate fans like you?

You wonder why OU fans are at the top of the clown college class because of Brainiacs like you.

Jolly, Edmond - Oct 5, 2009 at 5:47 pm
This defense basically gave up 14 points on the road to Miami. They gave Miami a gift on a fumble at our own 10 or wherever it was. Our underneath coverage on defense wasn't good but Bill Young would love to coach this defense in a heartbeat. Jeremy Beal is a beast and he will have more sacks this year than the entire OSU team.
Brian, Bixby - Oct 5, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Broyles back in a few weeks is huge. OU fans that are ripping Wilson need to get a life. His offense broke scoring records last year and all of a sudden he can't coach a lick. Do you think OSU fans are ready to get rid of Bill Young after getting blitz by Houston? Of course not, I takes experience and talent to win games. Coach Switzer taught all of us that many years ago.
Brian, Bixby - Oct 5, 2009 at 4:55 pm
Chris, you are a joke.

#1- They DID play these linemen last year, except of course the freshmen and the sophomore transfer that COULDNT play. The two that could saw significant time. You can only play players that are eligible, and they did. Check your depth chart.

#2- Get your facts straight. OU does not run a "hurry up" offense. It is called a "no-huddle" the point is to get to the line, see how the defense lines up and change the play accordingly. So you spend the time on the clock looking at the defensive alignment instead of talking in the huddle. Peyton Manning runs a no huddle and frequently uses every second of the play clock.

Some people need to learn facts before they try to act like they know something. It is about execution. Playcalling has about 30% to do with offensive success, without execution NO plays will work right. We just dont have the horses to execute. Much like 2005, but we are better at QB and on defense than in '05.

Broyles never beat Santa Fe, neither did Bradford or Madu. Go Wolves.

jampalbo-Bowling...not playing...Broyles...no punishment. Good one Bobby Stoops.
Trent, Edmond - Oct 5, 2009 at 4:38 pm
jampalbo, Bowling doesn't play for OSU, your comeback doesn't work. The first comment about Broyles stealing gas was underhanded and unnecessary, but yours was stupid.

James, Norman - Oct 5, 2009 at 3:33 pm
KEVIN WILSON IS THE PROBLEM. i dont care about our fantastic season last year, our record breaking season, what ever. sure it was great and all, but when we were racking up points at the end of blow out games last year, this excuse of offensive lineman we have could have been playing and getting some experience. Kevin, you knew that everyone was graduating and that nothing was coming back. Were lucky that we had one come back.
This hurry up offense is a joke also. What is this crap, hurry up to the line, get set, and everyone stand straight up to change the play while their defense can take thier time to line up and match everyone and fill thier slots. Not to mention that while this sideline conference is happening, our line is still in a three point stance, getting tired of squating..they arent too good as it is, they dont need an added fatigue and strain to add to the disaster.
Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma State.. were going to get owned. Kevin Wilson, you need a new job. Youre ruining this team, ruining our reputation, and ruining Big Game Bobs reputation also.

FIRE KEVIN

BOOMER SOONER!!
Chris - Oct 5, 2009 at 3:20 pm
I agree that losing is really hard and I wish to win all the games every year, but a few of these guys below need to get real! Undefeated seasons every year won't happen. Grow up! Our players and coaches are the best and bad things happen to good people.
Janet, Oklahoma City - Oct 5, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Trent your right, Bowling can also roll blunts one handed.
jampalbo, norman - Oct 5, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Kevin Wilson needs to be FIRED. This is not the first time he has done this to OU. We lost to BYU, lost to Miami, and will loose to Texas and Oklahoma State, and maybe even Nebraska. Come on Bob, do your job, be a coach, not just to the team but to the coaches as well!
Brian, FLW - Oct 5, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Big. I agree that the Offensive line is the problem. Playcalling doesnt matter without good blocking.

However, give it time. O lines often take a little while consider what we had last year. Though we complained at times it is safe to say we had a GREAT O line.

NOW go back another few years to 2005; We had one returning senior (Davin Joseph) like this year (Trent Williams), then we had some journeymen in the rotation that were juniors and sophomores. That line could not protect Bomar for anything. They were awful. Now remember that there were three freshmen that played a ton; Duke Robinson, Jon Cooper, and Brandon Braxton. Those three, with Loadholt(JUCO) and Trent Williams anchored last years line.

Just give it some time. All we need is some improvement from those underclassmen and maybe pick up a Juco and it will come together. I do think they have some talent.
