Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops said that he reached out to Sam Bradford via text after the former Sooners quarterback suffered another injury setback in his NFL career.
Bradford tore the ACL in his left knee in the St. Louis Rams’ preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, cutting his season short for the second consecutive year. Bradford missed nine games in 2013 with a torn ACL and will miss the entire 2014 season.
Stoops said Monday during the Big 12 coaches teleconference that he hasn’t spoken to Bradford directly, but that he texted his former Heisman winning quarterback with thoughts of encouragement.
“I texted Sam last night, let him know how sad I was for him, I was praying for him, and that everybody here at Oklahoma was here for him whenever he needed it,” Stoops said. “Outside of that, I haven’t been able to reach him.
“Obviously here we all feel for him in our office, and just pray that he’ll be able to rehabilitate it to be the guy he’s always been – a great quarterback.”
