Coming off the Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama, the NFL rumor mill was hot and heavy for Bob Stoops - particularly for the Sooners’ coach headed back to his Ohio roots and potentially coaching the Cleveland Browns.

As we all know now, that didn’t happen. It’s probably a good thing for Stoops it didn’t because as the days go on, the Cleveland Browns continue to show how much disarray they’re in.

On Tuesday, the Browns’ website announced a full-scale clearout of their front office, as team CEO Joe Banner will step down and general manager Mike Lombardi is "departing the organization."

Banner was just hired in 2012. Lombardi in 2013. Head coach Rob Chudzinski was recently canned after just one year in charge.

And after Stoops talked vaguely about NFL interest, he (along with a long list of other coaches) spurned the Browns. Cleveland settled on Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine as their next head coach. Pettine's own daughter didn’t even think the job was top-notch.

Did we mention the Browns’ owner is under federal investigation?

“The purpose of these moves is to unify our team with one, unequivocal goal: Provide our fans with the winning organization they have long deserved,” owner Jimmy Haslam said in a statement Tuesday.

Stoops isn’t stupid. Fifteen years of stability in Norman wins out over NFL insecurity in your native state.
