Oklahoma football: Bob Stoops will keep Big 12 opinions to himself

Stoops: “We have our opinions, but I'm not gonna go stating them.”

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops was asked during Monday's news conference about the wide open nature of the Big 12 Conference, which has just one unbeaten team left in Kansas State.

“I don't look that far,” Stoops said. “I have to play this week. I don't get involved in those conversations. At least I try not.”

He later admitted having a “sense” of who in the conference is good and who isn't, but said he “isn't much for sharing” those views.

“We have our opinions, but I'm not gonna go stating them,” Stoops said.

So did he think his squad would hang nearly 700 yards of total offense on Texas last weekend, when OU won 63-21 in the Cotton Bowl?

“I don't know that I anticipate that,” he said.

How about holding the Longhorns to two first downs in the first half?

“Probably not, but who knows?” he responded. “It's always possible.”

GAME BALLS ARE PLENTIFUL FOR SOONERS

Last week, Oklahoma athletics released a video of Stoops giving out game balls about as fast as running back Damien Williams could run 95 yards down the Cotton Bowl field.

This week, Stoops said he “didn't have enough” game balls to give out for Oklahoma's performance against Texas.

How can you give a guy like Williams a game ball for his 95-yard run but not also hand one to Trey Millard and Kenny Stills for the blocks they threw during the run? How do you choose just one guy out of a starting defense that didn't give up any points the entire game?

Stoops said he couldn't choose. That's why he gave two games balls.
