1964: Murcer graduates from Southeast High School. As a senior, Murcer hit .458 and struck out just once. He signs with the Yankees in June 1964.
Sept. 8, 1965: Murcer makes his major league debut with the Yankees.
1967-68: Murcer doesn't play while serving in the U.S. Army.
1969: Murcer returns to Yankees and starts the season strong. He finishes the year batting .259 with 26 home runs and 82 RBI.
Oct. 21, 1974: Murcer traded to the San Francisco Giants for Bobby Bonds. He plays for two seasons in San Francisco.
February 1977: Murcer traded to Cubs in five-player deal.
June 26, 1979: 33-year-old Murcer traded back to Yankees by the Cubs.
Aug. 2, 1979: Murcer's good friend Thurman Munson is killed in plane crash. A few days later, Murcer delivered one of the eulogies at Munson's funeral and then hit a home run and drove in all five runs in the Yankees' emotional 5-4 victory that night.
June 11, 1983: Murcer plays his last game as a Yankee.
June 20, 1983: Murcer retires at the age of 37. He quickly gets into broadcasting, starting his career with WPIX.
Aug. 7, 1983: Yankees honor Murcer with "Bobby Murcer Day.”
1985: Murcer attempted a comeback, but it ended after four minor league games when he suffered a shoulder injury.
Christmas Eve, 2006: Murcer diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Dec. 28, 2006: Murcer undergoes surgery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Jan. 10, 2007: It is announced that Murcer's tumor was malignant.
May 1, 2007: Murcer returns to the Yankees' broadcast booth for a game against the Rangers in Arlington.
May 20, 2008: Murcer's autobiography, "Yankee For Life: My 40-Year Journey in Pinstripes,” goes on sale.
July 12, 2008: Murcer dies at the age of 62 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
