The Oklahoma City School Board will consider whether to fire the principal of Bodine Elementary School during a hearing Tuesday.

Veleasha Johnson Stewart has only been at Bodine, 5301 S Bryant, for one school year. Last summer, she was part of an 11-school principal shuffle.

“Change is difficult,” Stewart told The Oklahoman in June 2012. “You have to do what's necessary.”

The reason for Stewart's hearing has not been disclosed.

The board will meet to discuss whether to end Stewart's contract at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Oklahoma City Public Schools administration building, 900 N Klein.

District officials filed a meeting notice for the hearing two weeks ago with the Oklahoma County clerk. The agenda, which specifically named Stewart, was posted Friday.

Stewart, 46, previously worked at Van Buren Elementary School, starting in 2005.

“Would I have chosen now as a time to change?” she said last summer. “No. But I've chosen to dedicate my life to educating children.”

An active telephone listing for Stewart could not be found Friday.
