Boehner: 'The private sector not doing well'

Published: June 8, 2012

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, contradicted President Obama's comments on the strength of the private sector economy and faulted him for collaborating with drug companies to pass Obamacare in 2009 and 2010.

"Mr. President, I used to run a small business, and, Mr. President, take it from me: The private sector is not doing well," Boehner said shortly after Obama declared that "the private sector is doing fine" during a press conference in which he called for congressional spending to create government jobs. "We're going to vote next month on extending all of the current tax rates, and the president should assure the nation that when this bill gets to his desk he'll sign it into law."

Boehner denied Obama's thesis, that lack of federal funding to offset state budget cuts is hurting the economy. "Government continues to spend money that we don't have," he said.
