Police received a tip about 5:30 p.m. about an explosive at the Briar Glen apartments in the 1100 block of S. Independence, Strecker said. A cylindrical object was found in an apartment, and 15 to 18 apartments were evacuated, he said.

The bomb squad was still working at 9 p.m., Strecker said.
