Two grenades found at a downtown Goodwill store Thursday were determined to be inactive after a bomb squad was called to investigate.
Employees at the store, 316 S Blackwelder Ave., contacted police and evacuated about 10:30 a.m. after one grenade was found in an employee’s desk and another in a warehouse, police Capt. Dexter Nelson said.
Bomb squad members were on scene until about 1:15 p.m. before concluding there was no threat to the public.
“They were grenades, but they weren’t dangerous,” Nelson said. “They just didn’t have any explosive material.”
Police were originally told one grenade was located in a terminated employee’s desk, but further information indicated the employee had been placed on administrative leave Wednesday, Nelson said.
It is believed the grenades mistakenly entered the building through a donation, Nelson said.
