In "True Blue” (Grand Central Publishing, $27.99), the latest offering by best-selling author David Baldacci, Mason "Mace” Perry has just served a two-year prison term — especially hard for a top-flight cop whose sister, Beth Perry, is the Washington metropolitan police chief.

But Mace was framed, and she is determined to get reinstated. She’s clever, impetuous and can’t avoid getting involved.

As a result, Mace finds herself trying to help solve a murder case. Diane Tolliver, a Washington attorney, is found by fellow attorney Roy Kingman stuffed in a refrigerator at her law office. A suspect is found, and it looks like an easy case until Roy finds a cryptic e-mail sent to him by Diane just before she was killed.

The complexity of the case becomes more apparent when Mace and Roy, working together, are marked for murder because they’re getting too close. High-powered government officials using patriotism as an excuse are using every means to keep the case unsolved. This is a fast-moving thriller.
