Book review: “Messengers” by David L. Arnett
“Messengers” (Unity Books, $24.95) by David L. Arnett is a spiritual/political thriller. Jake Daniels should have died when his SUV collided with a truck. But a woman at the scene warned him just in time.
Jake is nonreligious but becomes convinced the woman who saved his life is an angel. He's an artist, so he does a portrait of the woman and takes it to angel conventions nationwide to see if anyone recognizes her.
He wants to know more about angels, evil and the meaning of life. He looks for people who have had near-death experiences.
His search leads to encounters with angels. They share insights about spirituality, evil and humankind, leading him to confrontations with demons as well. Through these experiences, Jake learns the truth about all religions.
The angels he encounters tell him he will be asked to complete a task, and that their meetings with him will prepare him. Jake feels compelled to share the truths he has learned with others at a public gathering at the Jefferson Memorial.
The nature of Jake's task was unexpected, so I was surprised by the ending. This was a fascinating story with a great concept.
