Boone Pickens has some advice for Texas A&M.
“Stay home,” he said.
On the night that Oklahoma State's mega-booster was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, he was asked what he would tell Texas A&M about leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. What he would do if he held as much sway in College Station as he does in Stillwater?
He would suggest that the Aggies to stay put.
“That's a big mistake for Texas A&M to move out,” Pickens said Tuesday night in Oklahoma City. “They're moving out of Texas when they do that, and I don't think that's a smart deal.”
Pickens attended Texas A&M for a year before transferring to OSU, but now, he makes his home in Texas. He regularly does business and crosses paths with lots of folks who are alums of Texas A&M.
“Aggies, you know, they're very spirited guys,” Pickens said.
So, will that feisty nature prompt them to leave the Big 12?
“I don't think they'll move,” Pickens said. “I don't want 'em to. Texas doesn't want 'em to, either. Nobody wants 'em to leave.
“I think the Aggies'll stay with the conference.”
