Personal trainer Vicky Tri wants to gain 200 pounds on Labor Day.
Of dog food, that is.
Over the past five years, Tri has dedicated herself to leading boot camp-style workouts for humans on holiday mornings. The price of joining the class is bringing dog food or other items needed by shelters and animal rescues.
If Tri makes her 200-pound goal, that will mean she has collected 7,000 pounds of dog food so far — approximately the weight of a female elephant.
The one-hour Boot Camp 4 Paws class will meet at 8 a.m. Monday at South Lakes Park, 4210 SW 119. In case of rain, the class will be rescheduled.
This time, the food will benefit PitEssentials Rescue in Noble, which rescues pit bull terrier dogs and pit mixes, Tri said. Towels, bedding and cash donations for the rescue are also welcome.
Tri said she chose to help PitEssentials because pit bulls are “a little bit misunderstood.”
But, she noted, local rescues “are all connected. They all try to help.”
Tri, who has five dogs and plans to bring one to the class, invites people to bring children and their own dogs to the workout in the park.
