Both Oklahoma City soccer groups plan to build stadiums

A day after Prodigal LLC and ADG, Inc. announced they plan to build a soccer-specific stadium in Oklahoma City, The Oklahoman learned that Sold Out Strategies' Brad Lund has also been discussing his group's plan for another soccer stadium with Mayor Mick Cornett and other city leaders.

Although Oklahoma City Public Schools awarded Lund a two-year lease for Taft Stadium on June 17, Lund wanted city officials to know he has long-term plans for a stadium of his own.

Prodigal's United Soccer Leagues PRO franchise will begin play in the spring of 2014, while Lund and his advocates are trying to bring a North American Soccer League team to the city for spring 2015.

“Brad's long-term plans, as he explained it, were to build a soccer-specific stadium, on a site that hadn't really been determined, with funding that hadn't really been identified,” Cornett said. “But he seemed to feel confident that he would figure it out.

“Typically, people just let me be aware of what their short-term plans and their long-term plans are, and really, that's all it was. It was just an informational meeting, he wasn't asking for anything.”

Tuesday, Prodigal and ADG Inc. revealed they will be working together to design and build their stadium. Prodigal CEO Bob Funk Jr. said there are five sites the group is considering for the facility.

Ideally, Funk said, the stadium would be near an interstate and have a lot of room for parking, possible practice facilities, small soccer venues, and/or entertainment attractions. All five locations are in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, but the possible sites and whether the stadium would be publicly or privately funded were not revealed.
