Teen arrested on complaint of firing gun at police officer in Oklahoma City

An Oklahoma City police officer responding to the call found Jenkins standing in the middle of the roadway in the 1500 block of Westwood Alley. As the officer approached, the teen fired multiple shots and ran eastbound into a housing complex, Nelson said. The officer chased him on foot.

Another officer pulled into the complex and found the youth running with a gun in his hand. That officer fired at the teen, who continued to run eastbound and jumped over a fence.

Police apprehended Jenkins in a field between Pettee and Indiana avenues. The 6-foot-1, 150-pound youth fought with police during the arrest, officers said.

Jenkins was jailed at the Oklahoma County Juvenile Detention Center on two complaints of shooting with intent to kill. Jenkins is a student at SeeWorth Academy, an Oklahoma City alternative charter school, an Oklahoma City School District spokeswoman said.

Five officers were involved in the incident, though only one fired a weapon, Nelson said.

That officer will be placed on routine administrative leave pending an outcome of an internal investigation.

The youth has been arrested at least one prior time on a narcotics offense, Nelson said.
