Boys basketball: Curran Scott scores 28 points as Edmond Santa Fe rallies past Mustang

With his Edmond Santa Fe squad trailing by 10 points with less than six minutes left, coach Lenny Hatchett called timeout, but not to talk about what the Wolves should do on the offensive end to erase the deficit.

“I told them we needed to emphasize our defense and rebounding,” Hatchett said.

And as Hatchett hoped, that focus ultimately produced offense as the fourth-ranked Wolves came back to defeat fifth-ranked Mustang 67-63 in overtime Tuesday night at Edmond Santa Fe.

After scoring just 15 points combined in the second and third quarters, Santa Fe's offense came alive for 31 points over the final 12 minutes. Curran Scott led the charge with 28 points.

“He wants the ball,” Hatchett said of Scott. “He works hard at it, and plays a lot of minutes. He's a competitor and he's about the team. There were some great passes he made in the fourth quarter and overtime. Teams have to be accountable for him, because he's such a threat on the offensive end. And we're really proud that he's buying in on the defensive end.”

Santa Fe sophomore Tre Evans added 13 points, including a couple of clutch baskets late, and DaQuan Jeffries capped his 10-point night with a powerful one-handed dunk in overtime that boosted the Wolves' momentum.

Mustang was led by Terrell Williams and Jakolby Long with 16 points each.
