A third-quarter surge and a late turn of fortunes at the free throw line helped Midwest City spoil Senior Night at Westmoore with a 70-59 win Friday.
The sixth-ranked Bombers used a 20-7 run in the third quarter to open up a 19-point lead on No. 17 Westmoore, which cut the deficit to 63-57 in the final minutes.
But after going 1 for 6 at the free throw line through 3 1/2 quarters, Midwest City hit five of its final seven attempts to close the door.
Cornell Neal scored 12 of his game-high 16 points in the second half, keying the Bombers' strong third quarter.
“We weren't playing as hard as we needed to on defense,” Neal said. “We came out and did that, and that's how we were able to build up the lead.”
Westmoore was led by Beau Palmer with 15 points. Kyle Lakin and Tripp Fuller had 10 each.
Midwest City's Kesean Brown and T.J. Noel had 13 points apiece, while Daryck Jones added 11. Midwest City is back in action Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Del City.
Del City is coming off a strong win of its own, getting 20 points from senior forward Steffon Herd in a 58-38 victory over Moore.
