Bracketology: Sooners could move down

by Berry Tramel Published: March 14, 2014

OSU’s 77-70 overtime loss to Kansas shouldn’t hurt the Cowboys’ seeding for the NCAA Tournament. But OU’s 78-73 loss to Baylor could drop the Sooners a line on the bracket.

In my bracket projections, I dropped the Sooners from a No. 5 seed to a No. 6. And I kept the Cowboys at a No. 9.

Meanwhile, the day’s biggest upset — Villanova’s loss to Seton Hall — might not cost ‘Nova a No. 1 seed. For now. But if Kansas wins the Big 12 Tournament, or Wisconsin or Michigan win the Big Ten, or Syracuse, Duke or Virginia win the ACC, Villanova could be susceptible to falling to a No. 2.

With Selection Sunday only two days away, we continue the daily series on the projected tournament field, with seeds included. Remember, eight teams will be sent to Dayton, Ohio, for preliminary round games early next week, so the field is 68.

Here’s our best guess. For now:

1: Florida, Wichita State, Arizona, Villanova

2: Kansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Syracuse

3: Duke, Virginia, San Diego State, Creighton

4: Iowa State, North Carolina, Cincinnati, Louisville

5: Michigan State, Connecticut, Saint Louis, Ohio State

6: Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia Commonwealth, UCLA

7: New Mexico, George Washington, Kentucky, Massachusetts

8: Baylor, Memphis, Kansas State, Gonzaga

9: Stanford, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Colorado

10: Pittsburgh, SMU, Saint Joseph’s, Arizona State

11: Xavier, Nebraska, Dayton, Tennessee, Brigham Young

12: Providence, North Dakota State, Harvard, Conference USA champ, Iowa

13: Delaware, Manhattan, Mid-American champ, Southland champ

14: Mercer, Big West champ, Milwaukee, Georgia State

15:  Mid-Eastern champ, Eastern Kentucky, American U., WAC champ

16: America East champ, Coastal Carolina, Mount St. Mary’s, Wofford, SWAC champ, Big Sky champ
