  • 2016 Oklahoma State University QB Commit Does Hot Yoga at Elite 11

    Published: Tue, Jul 7, 2015

Nick Starkel, OSU's quarterback commit rolled out his yoga mat with fellow finalists to unwind as they head into day 3 of The Elite 11 Finals. The 18 top quarterback prospects in the 2016 class traded deep out routes for downward facing dog and hot reads for hot yoga. The QBs, coached by Trent Dilfer and counselors from the college ranks, including Clemson's  Deshaun Watson , Tennessee's  Josh Dobbs  and USC's  Cody Kessler , will participate in passing drills, whiteboard sessions and quarterback teams during The Opening Finals at Nike headquarters. Striking a pose in a yoga practice is just part of the plan. Hopefully this will help them turn tadasana into touchdowns.

  • Which former Oklahoma State standout has become Michael Jordan's golfing buddy?

    Updated: Tue, Jun 2, 2015

Former Oklahoma State golfer Morgan Hoffman has apparently found himself a new golfing partner. Here’s hoping Hoffman’s wallet is stuffed enough to handle the pairing. Hoffmann, who was recently profiled in a Sports Illustrated Rising Stars segment , told the magazine he regularly plays with NBA legend Michael Jordan at the Bear's Club in Jupiter, Fla. "At Bear's Club we have great games," Hoffmann said SI. "Michael Jordan, he always wants to play games with us and it's always big money gambling, so it's so much fun." Jordan is widely known as a high-dollar gambler on the golf course. In the early 1990s, he reportedly owed one man more than $1 million in golf-gambling debt. Hoffmann told Sports Illustrated he's developed a close relationship with Jordan, who often sends him congratulatory messages when he performs well on the Tour. "He's awesome, he's a good friend," Hoffmann said. "He's always treated me nice and very, very supportive. Whenever I do well, he texts me and says 'Great job.' It's cool."

  • Game change: Scholarships covering the full cost of attendance mean less stress for athletes, but another expense for universities

BY MARK COOPER, Tulsa World | Published: Tue, May 12, 2015

R yan Simmons’ budget is typically tight. Simmons, a rising senior at Oklahoma State and linebacker on the football team, has a full scholarship that covers his tuition, room and board and books. But he still faces financial stress when it comes to food, personal expenses and his desire to help his family back in Cibolo, Texas. “You’re really living almost check to check,” he said. Soon, a monumental change will alleviate some of the worry. This fall, scholarship athletes in the so-called “Power 5” conferences — and at other schools that opt to participate, like Tulsa — will receive the full cost of attendance in their scholarships. The landmark legislation was passed at the NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C., in January, by the newly autonomous Power 5. The proposal passed with a 79-1 vote; Boston College was the lone dissenter. Read the rest of this story at TulsaWorld.com.
