  • OSU Regents approve block tuition plan

By Oklahoma State University | Updated: Thu, Jul 3, 2014

The Oklahoma State University-A&M Board of Regents has approved a block tuition plan to keep higher education affordable and accessible to more Oklahomans. The plan is part of OSU’s “Finish in Four” initiative. A flat rate of $7,442 for tuition and universitywide fees applies to full-time in-state undergraduates. The out-of-state student rate is $20,027. The flat-rate tuition will cover 12 to 18 hours of study, normally four to six classes. These rates are the same as the cost last year for 15 semester hours, about four classes. “I am pleased the university will be introducing a block tuition model to our students this fall,” OSU President Burns Hargis said.

  • Early application to OSU can pay off

By Oklahoma State University | Updated: Thu, Jul 3, 2014

For many high school students, summertime means sleeping in, pool time and hanging out with friends. For those about to be seniors, it can include deciding on a college. Oklahoma State University opened its application for admission and scholarships for the high school Class of 2015 on July 1.  And students who get an early start are rewarded. Students who apply in July and have their official transcripts and test scores sent to OSU in time to be admitted by the end of August 2014 will earn an orange T-shirt that says, “First. #okstate19.” There are many benefits for seniors to apply early to OSU. Taking care of the application process during the summer means less stress and more free time for the

  • Adults and children make memories at OSU’s Grandparent University

By Oklahoma State University | Updated: Thu, Jul 3, 2014

Some of the students who were learning about firefighting and environmental law this summer may seem a bit on the young side, but they brought their own seasoned chaperones. Since 2002, the OSU Alumni Association has welcomed OSU legacies, ages 7 to 13, and their grandparents to campus for a unique intergenerational learning experience at Grandparent University. About 500 children created memories with their grandparents while getting a bit of an OSU education during two three-day sessions this summer. The 2014 Grandparent University was the largest in the program’s history. The legacies enrolled in one of several majors. After completing the program they “graduated” with a

  • Improving Lives in Oklahoma for a Century

By Oklahoma State University | Updated: Wed, Jun 18, 2014

The Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service is celebrating its first 100 years of extending knowledge and changing lives.   OSU Extension has worked with Oklahoma farmers, ranchers and families since 1914, providing the latest research and information on everything from agricultural and community development to family health, gardening and 4-H.   Modern Extension offices continue to fulfill the original mission of helping all Oklahomans live the best lives possible, even if they never step inside a county office, says James Trapp, associate Extension director.   The Smith-Lever Act established the national Cooperative Extension Service in 1914.

  • Geothermal system keeps critters comfy at Oklahoma Aquarium

By Oklahoma State University | Updated: Wed, Jun 18, 2014

OSU’s innovation in geothermal energy protects the environment and provides long-term cost savings for businesses.   One example of a geothermal system is at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks, which uses geothermal heating and cooling in its quarantine building, keeping the animals comfortable and lowering energy costs. The 10,000-square-foot quarantine building is separate from the main public exhibit building and houses marine animals until exhibit space is ready for them.   The facility in Jenks opened in 2003 on the banks of the Arkansas River, and the venture has sparked economic growth for Tulsa and Jenks.

  • OSU is Oklahoma’s launching point for future

By Oklahoma State University | Updated: Wed, Jun 18, 2014

This is a great time to become an OSU Cowboy or Cowgirl.   Under the direction of President Burns Hargis, OSU continues to be the launching point for the future.   OSU is a thriving, growing university. Freshman enrollment has grown 23 percent, an increase of more than 700 freshmen from 2009 to fall 2013. OSU has averaged more than 4,000 freshmen over those years.   Several of OSU’s colleges are leaders in academics. OSU’s aeronautical engineering program is recognized as one of the best, and the College of Education has been recognized as Oklahoma’s best for training teachers.

  • Promising an opportunity for education

By Oklahoma State University | Updated: Wed, Jun 18, 2014

The Oklahoma Promise program offers deserving students their shot at success with free college tuition.   Students in grades 8, 9 and 10 may apply if their parents make $50,000 a year or less. To help assure academic success in college, certain preparatory classes must be taken in high school.   The program has been around since 1992, says Bryce Fair, associate vice chancellor for scholarships for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.    “The program is on a very sound footing now and in the future,” Fair says. The award is based on tuition rates.   “It averages about $3,000, but may be as much as $5,000,” Fair says. He
