Bribery case moves forward another step for former Oklahoma legislators
An Oklahoma judge Friday entered not guilty pleas for former state Rep. Randy Terrill and former state Sen. Debbe Leftwich, and scheduled their pretrial conference for March 20.
The bribery case against two former legislators moved forward another step Friday.
A preliminary hearing judge formally ordered former state Rep. Randy Terrill and former state Sen. Debbe Leftwich to face trial.
Oklahoma County Special Judge Stephen Alcorn also entered not guilty pleas on their behalf and scheduled their pretrial conference for March 20.
The case had been on hold for more than a year because prosecutors tried to add a conspiracy count to the case.
Alcorn in 2011 ruled prosecutors had sufficient evidence for a trial on the bribery accusations, but not on the conspiracy count. The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals on Wednesday upheld his ruling.
Prosecutors allege Terrill, a Republican, offered Leftwich, a Democrat, an $80,000-a-year state job to not run for re-election in 2010.
Prosecutors contend Terrill was trying to help a Republican friend who was planning to run for Leftwich's Senate seat.
If convicted, they face up to two years in prison.
