The organizers of the “Shine the Light” event where Wanda Pratt shared her story said they were not expecting her to share her personal story, but they were pleased that she decided to speak candidly about an issue that people don't often discuss.

“She did exactly what I think needed to happen, and I think she's going to free other victims to do the same,” said Tammy Stauffer, project manager for the “She's Somebody's Daughter” anti-pornography campaign. “We wanted to bring these issues to the forefront.”

Steve Siler, one of the founders of the anti-pornography campaign, agreed.

“I was profoundly grateful and satisfied with her remarks and I thought she showed great courage and great strength,” he said of Pratt.

He said issues like child molestation, pornography addiction and human trafficking are conducted in secret.

“We believe that when you bring something out into the light, that's when you get at the truth,” he said.

Siler said issues such as those brought to the forefront by the campaign and discussed by Pratt must be faced “if we want to create the kind of culture that encourages families to sustain healthy relationships.”

“In a healthy environment, no one would want their daughter to be sexually abused. No one would want their daughter to be sex-trafficked. No one would want their daughter in a pornographic film. We are making it more personal because it's all about getting people talking.”
