Filming of "Bringing Up Bobby," an upcoming movie starring Milla Jovovich, continues across central Oklahoma. Director Famke Janssen filmed scenes at the Oklahoma County Courthouse and at the Pops 66 restaurant in Arcadia.
Pops General Manager Marty Doepke said he was first visited by Janssen about a year ago.
"She just showed up one day, and of course everybody recognized her," Doepke said.
"She said she was scouting locations for a film she was directing and was interested in shooting at Pops."
Doepke said that trip was followed up by an assistant about 2 1/2 months ago, confirming that the production had chosen Pops as a location to shoot.
"How can you say no that?" Doepke said.
He said Janssen has been out many times since the agreement was struck, and the shoot took place Wednesday evening, shortly after closing time.
"They didn't want us to close down or clear the store," Doepke said. "If was fun for the staff, and the customers who were still here thought it was neat, too."
Jovovich and co-star Spencer List were in the scene so Doepke and staff were able to meet the actors.
The kitchen staff cooked up some burgers and the actors were given Pops' own Round Barn Root Beer.
The shoot took about an hour and a half, and now the crew at Pops is crossing its fingers that their scene isn't left on the cutting room floor.
"Last summer, we shut down for 2 1/2 hours for a show on NBC and all that ended up on the show was the grass in front of the store and a couple of rings on the sign."
