A Broken Arrow man was rescued Thursday after being swept away in a flooded creek near Webbers Falls in Muskogee County, authorities said.

Matthew Johnson, 18, had parked his pickup and tried to swim across Dirty Creek to see his girlfriend Thursday afternoon, Warner Fire Chief Dave Whitson said.

Swept downstream about 300 yards, he clung to a tree for a few hours before he was rescued, Whitson said.

Johnson, who was suffering from hypothermia, was transported to Muskogee Regional Medical Center, Whitson said.
