DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Bruno Metsu has been relieved of coaching duties at Al Wasl less than three months after replacing Diego Maradona at the Dubai club.
A statement by the club on Friday says Metsu asked to step down as head coach due to "his current health condition." It did not elaborate.
Metsu signed a two-year contract with Al Wasl in July, a week after the temperamental Argentine great was dismissed from the club that finished eighth in the 12-team league last season.
Metsu was the national coach in Qatar and also worked in several clubs in the emirate before moving to Dubai this summer.
Before coming to the Gulf, the Frenchman led Senegal to the 2002 World Cup quarterfinals.
