DURANT — A jury in southern Oklahoma has convicted a 25-year-old man of second-degree murder in the death of his 14-month-old son.

The Bryan County jury deliberated about three hours Wednesday before convicting Marin Clay Allison in the May 2012 death of his son, Ethan Allison. A local newspaper reports that Allison had been charged with first-degree murder by child abuse, but jurors opted for the lesser charge of second-degree murder.

The jury recommended a 19-year prison term for Allison, with a formal sentencing set for next month.

Durant police say Ethan died at a hospital from a traumatic brain injury. An affidavit says Allison told authorities that he grabbed the boy and that the child slipped and hit his head on a tile floor.
