In its first two years, the Buffalo Lounge established a strong presence on Austin's Sixth Street as a showcase for Oklahoma music, film and multimedia talent at Austin's South By Sounthwest, and this year, the Buffalo Lounge stakes out larger territory, hosting three days of Oklahoma-grown performances Monday through March 13 at the 512, a two-story club located at 408 E 6 St.
The Buffalo Lounge kicks off from 3 to 6 p.m. March 11 with its annual Oklahoma film party, The Red Dirt Reel, which highlights the Oklahoma film industry, followed by an interactive showcase from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
This event will provide networking opportunities for those involved in the interactive industry, and will be an opportunity for attendees to learn more about participating Oklahoma sponsors, entrepreneurs, and startups, as well as a new component, the Buffalo Lounge Elevator Pitch Competition. Nine Oklahoma finalists will have the opportunity to compete for up to $10,000 in prizes as a panel of Oklahoma angel investors will rank 90-second pitches based on set criteria, including quality of pitch, business viability, market opportunity and competitive advantage. The evening will also feature Oklahoma 90s tribute band, My So Called Band.
The music portion of SXSW officially begins at noon Tuesday, featuring Colin Nance, Mont Lyons, Skating Polly, Depth and Current, Reality, Admirals, Modern Rock Diaries, Taddy Porter, Paul Benjaman Band, Idabel, Hudson Roar, Mark Gibson, Beau Jennings and The Tigers, Deerpeople, Daniel Walcher, and Jabee. The music starts up again at 8 p.m. with the ACM@UCO SXSW showcase, featuring Paperscissor, Day One, Tallows, Horse Thief, Colourmusic, and Stardeath & White Dwarfs.
Two separate stages will feature music beginning at noon March 13, including performances by Susan Herndon, Desi and Cody, Josh Sallee, The Del Toros, The Dustin Pittsley Band, Guardant, The Bourgeois, We The Ghost, Bowlsey, Brave, Blake Fischer, The Kamals, The Lower 40, and Ripple Green.
