CARSON, California (AP) — Bobby Burling headed home in the 88th minute to give Chivas USA a 3-2 home victory over Chicago in their Major League Soccer season opener on Sunday.
Chivas was playing its first game since MLS last month purchased the franchise rights from the owner of Mexican club Guadalajara.
Erick Torres put Chivas ahead with a 56th-minute penalty after drawing a foul from Fire defender Gonzalo Segares, and rookie Thomas McNamara finished Leandro Barrera's near-post cross three minutes later.
Substitutes Benji Joya and Quincy Amarikwa scored as Chicago leveled the scores with about 20 minutes to go.
Joya, a rookie, scored on his first touch of the game in the 64th minute, about 30 seconds after coming on.
