In Oklahoma and elsewhere, election costs under scrutiny

For republics, one of the costs of doing business is funding elections. They're expensive but necessary.

Oklahoma's runoff election Aug. 24 cost as much as $900,000, mainly to decide the outcome of just one race in one political party. Financing such elections at a time when the state budget is so tight raises the issue of whether runoffs have become an unaffordable luxury.
