STILLWATER — There are few things Mike Gundy can’t afford now that he’s signed a new $15.7 million contract, but here’s one:

"I can’t afford the buyout,” Gundy said amid chuckles during OSU’s media day press conference Saturday.

The $3 million buyout came up when Gundy was asked whether he envisioned himself still coaching at OSU in five or 10 years.

"That went in place because I felt very committed to Oklahoma State because of the offer they made me,” he said of the buyout to be paid if he leaves during the seven-year deal. "We joked about it, and I joked about it with the wrong guy, so he was like, ‘OK, let’s just put it in there.’ ”

"Essentially, I’ve limited myself from (leaving), but I wasn’t going to do that anyway.

"I’ve said I’ll always coach at Oklahoma State unless someone doesn’t want me to coach at Oklahoma State.”
