Oklahoma City Animal Shelter figures
Most animals that come into the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter are either released to their original owners, adopted or euthanized. A small percentage of animals escape, a few are stolen or lost, and some die naturally while in the care of the shelter. The live release rate includes animals returned to their owners, adopted or transferred to humane groups.
In January 2011, 664 animals were adopted from the shelter and 893 were euthanized. The numbers improved to 698 adoptions and 620 animals euthanized in January of this year. The February 2011 numbers improved from 668 adoptions and 803 euthanized animals to 864 adoptions and 694 killed last month. Here's a look at more shelter numbers:
