‘Cakewrecks' author pokes fun at professional cakes gone wrong in new holiday book
Jen Yates, author of Cakewrecks.com, will be in Oklahoma City on Wednesday for a stop on a 17-city tour celebrating her latest book, “Wreck the Halls: Cake Wrecks Gets ‘Festive.'”

Jen Yates, creator of Cakewrecks.com, will be signing copies of “Wreck the Halls: Cake Wrecks Gets ‘Festive’” from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Full Circle Bookstore, 1900 Northwest Expressway.
The story gets even better when Yates gets to tell it or create her own funny version of what went wrong through her blog and now through her second book, “Wreck the Halls: Cake Wrecks Gets ‘Festive.'”
She and her husband, John, will stop in Oklahoma City on Wednesday at Full Circle Bookstore for a signing and event celebrating her book as part of a 17-city tour.
The book cover features a cake with the words “Happy Hole Days” scribbled hastily in icing, and the book is filled with all kinds of wrecks narrated by Yates: lumpy icing missteps, misspellings, bad grammar, poorly executed decorating instructions, “Santa Scare Tactics” and professional cakes that just look wrong.
Cakewrecks.com started three years ago after Jen and John Yates took classes at a local craft store and became interested in cake decorating. A friend then emailed her a funny cake photo, which gave her an idea.
“That was my light bulb moment. I started the blog within a few hours, just for fun. I never expected anyone to read it,” Jen Yates said in an email interview.
