Call for artists: Myriad Gardens children’s garden sculpture
If you haven’t been into the children’s garden downtown at the Myriad Gardens, you need to go. It’s an absolute delight. So, take all the children you know there. Only children you know. Otherwise, it’s kidnapping.
If you’re an artist, now’s the time be a part of this fantastic park. Here’s information from the Myriad Gardens Foundaiton, which is looking to add some art to this fantastic gem of downtown.
The Myriad Gardens Foundation has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Mary Eddy Jones Foundation to purchase a pre-existing unique sculpture or commission an artist to create an original sculpture to be installed inside the Children’s Garden at the Myriad Botanical Gardens.
The 1.5-acre Children’s Garden has two primary areas: a playground area with interactive playground features and a garden/nature area featuring a pond, raised gardening beds, storyteller’s stone circle, small amphitheater, and various planting beds and borders planted with perennials, shrubs and trees. Artists are welcome to suggest a specific placement site within the Children’s Garden that would work best for their sculpture concept.
The successful sculpture installation will be a permanent, outdoor, public art piece, perhaps with more than one part. The material(s) used in the piece(s) must be able to withstand outdoor weather conditions year-round, require minimal maintenance and be sturdy, durable and safe enough to withstand all ages touching and perhaps sitting/climbing on the piece(s). Resistance to high wind speeds is important. The artwork must be self-supporting on open landscape or hardscape approximately 10’ x 20’.
